I am an artist who predominantly creates abstract paintings, working with three mediums on canvas; silk paints, acrylics and layers of gesso. I find silk paint more fluid and similar in behaviour to the watercolours and inks I create on paper.

My principal subject is light and I draw inspiration from nature and landscape. The concepts that interest and inform my work often involve elements revolving around cyclical journeys. My paintings look at the contrasts between life and death, the physical and the spiritual experience.

I would like my paintings to speak to the fundamental human urge to feel alive and connected to glimpses underneath the surface appearance, chasing the indefinable source of light.

All the paintings and drawings on this website have been produced since 2021. I am not sure why this was the time when I would fully return to painting, I am just happy to see an old friend return. Creativity has always been my burning drive, after gaining a Masters Degree in Painting from the Royal College of Art and painting for a number of years, I went into teaching Art and the building trade.

It is true what is said, that the best way to learn something is to teach it. I think I learnt more about drawing and painting whilst teaching, than I could ever have done solely working by myself. Also, working in the building trade especially as a painter and decorator, taught me more about how to handle materials, than I could ever have wished. Whilst working as  a tradesman I often used to think of the cubist artist Georges Braque and how he did an apprenticeship as a house painter. This experience gave him a far greater understanding of handling paint and artisan techniques.

All this makes perfect sense as to why the Artist side of myself only developed further during this time. Now work flows more easily than ever before and I hope to keep adding more of my artwork to the website as I progress.

I sincerely hope you enjoy looking at my paintings. It has been a pleasure for me to see old friends reunited.
